The Common Good Award features two distinguished categories to celebrate the diverse ways individuals and groups support children in need:
A. Honour Awards: Recognizing Long-Term Commitment and Impact
These prestigious awards celebrate individuals who have demonstrated sustained dedication and made a significant, lasting impact on the lives of children.
- i. Best Child Sponsor Award: Recognizes a child sponsor who has shown long-term commitment to supporting a child from a distance.
- ii. Best Guardian Parent Award: Honors a guardian who embodies the criteria of providing a loving home, education, and upbringing rooted in strong values.
- iii. Best LINK-UP Children Brand Ambassador Award: Celebrates former LINK-UP children who have excelled in their lives and are now contributing positively to the community.
B. Meritorious Awards: Recognizing Outstanding Actions and Achievements
These awards acknowledge exceptional recent actions, achievements, and dedication to the well-being of children. These awards often include a cash prize.
- iv. Best Performing SHDG (Self-Help Development Group): Recognizes a functional group that demonstrates:
- Regular meetings with approved bylaws.
- Operation of savings and ‘Njangi’ schemes.
- Active efforts in protecting and educating children in their care.
- Member involvement in self-help activities.
- Evidence of strong social and cultural cohesion.
- v. Best Community/Group Leader: (Criteria for this award will be specified)
- vi. Best Humanitarian Action (The Good Samaritan Award): Celebrates an exceptional and courageous act of humanitarianism that has significantly and positively impacted a life or saved a life.
- vii. Best Successful Child Award: Recognizes the child with the highest academic achievement for the year.
- viii. Best Persevering Child Award: Honors a child who has demonstrated remarkable discipline, resilience, and focus despite facing significant challenges.
- ix. Best Staff/Volunteer Award: Recognizes a staff member or volunteer who has demonstrated effective participation, passion, resilience, discipline, and a deep commitment to the cause.
- x. Most Progressive Self-Help Member: Celebrates an internally displaced person (IDP) or grassroots community member in the informal sector who actively strives for self-reliance and supports others in becoming self-sufficient.
- xi. Outstanding External Contribution to Children’s Welfare: Acknowledges individuals or organizations outside of LINK-UP who are making significant positive contributions to the lives of children.
- xii. School Head Dedicated to Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVCs): Recognizes a Primary or Secondary school head who demonstrates exceptional concern and support for OVCs. (This award includes both a cash prize and honour recognition).
